Clothing Considerations for Pilonidal Cysts

Clothing Considerations for Pilonidal Cysts

When you have any skin issue – even so much as a patch of dry skin – certain clothing will make you go crazy the entire time you are wearing it. Now, if you have pilonidal cysts, you’re already miserable, right? Then add in your stiff, synthetic clothing rubbing that cyst raw, and it’s enough to make anyone want to cry. That’s why if you are suffering from pilonidal cysts you need to pay attention to what kind of clothing you wear. We can help with that. Let’s go over some ways to dress where even those pesky cysts won’t bother you.

What type of clothing you should wear:
  • Keep the clothing loose
  • Keep the clothing light

If you’ve ever had surgery, a bad burn, or any body part in a cast, you know the kind of clothing you wear is important. For something like a pilonidal cyst, you need to keep the area free from friction as much as possible. You need to keep your rear end covered but comfy.

What type of clothing you should avoid:
  • No tight clothing
  • No spandex
  • No clothing in a size too small

Basically, wear clothing that fits you. Squeezing yourself into those jeans from years ago probably isn’t fun anyway. But if you continuously wear clothing that is too tight, you can push the sides of your tush together, causing your pilonidal cysts to become worse. It’s all about the fit. You could wear things like spandex or Spanx as long as you wear the appropriate size. It’s when you wear those kinds of undergarments too small and for too long that things start to get a bit irritated back there.

It’s all about the material, too. Synthetic clothing is never the way to go – whether you have a skin issue or not. Those fast fashion materials are not good for your skin. So, what should you look for? Check the tag for these materials:

  • Silk
  • Cotton
  • Linen

These are the best ones. But if you can’t find anything with these materials that you like, there are some second-tier suggestions to look for:

  • Merino wool
  • Nylon
  • Polyester
  • Micromodal
  • You should look for these materials and fabrics anyway with all of your clothing shopping, regardless of your skin’s condition. But stick to these in the correct sizes for your body to help make sure pilonidal cysts aren’t a part of your life forever.

If you don’t want to irritate your behind any more than it already is with pilonidal cysts, then you need to stick to breathable, light fabrics in your wardrobe. Stay away from those tight and constricting sizes as well. You’ll look better in your clothing and be more confident when you can move around freely.

Plus, you’ll relieve the pressure on your backside and keep those problem bumps from popping back up. Look great, feel amazing, and put those bumps in their place with the proper clothing.
